The boy on the swing looked up, a lock of light hair flopping into his blue eyes, owlish and nerdy behind his glasses.

The boy standing in front of him smiled. "Don't mind them," he said with a nod in the direction of their foster brothers. "They're jealous because *their* parents just didn't want 'em."

The scorn in his voice made the other boy smile.

"So what's your name?"

"Daniel Jackson."

The black-haired boy laughed. "I'm Danny Alvarez."

The irony made them both grin. "Thank you," Daniel stated.

Danny shrugged. "We Daniels of the world have to stick together."

Note: Em and I got to discussing the parallels between Daniel and Danny, and came to the conclusion that they must be friends. *g* I don't know for sure if Danny was ever in foster care after his parents died, but if not...well, call this AU. ;-)
